Letting them drive it! (PART 2) : Etch your own path?
Here is the second session/Part 2 of the Homeschool Support Meeting on the topic,
Letting them drive it: Discussing the challenge with Home educating our unique children.
In this meeting, We quickly reviewed “The Big Picture in Home Education” as discussed in the first session/Part 1. It is highly recommended that you watch the Part 1 to better understand this session. Here is the link : PART 1
We talked about examples where we can combine the imparting of wisdom and building of skills while nurturing our relationship. Then we moved on to discuss ‘How we can etch our own path?’
Building these four qualities in us, can help strengthen us and give us the courage to etch our own path. We deep dived and tried to understand why each of these qualities are important, how to nurture them in us, and how these can affect our parenting and teaching in a remarkably positive way.
1. Trust
2. Self Confidence
3. Acceptance
4. Flexibility
Here is a free printable to remind us about this inner work we all need to focus on, which will hopefully embolden us to etch our own path. Click here to download it and keep it at a place where you can see it frequently and diligently build on it a little at a time.
We also discussed the two types of Learning: Propositional and Procedural. One is about ‘knowing that’ and the other one is about ‘knowing how’. We all have certain tendencies and preferences when it comes to learning. For some of us mere knowing is enough and for some others the experience with it or action in the learning is important. Understanding our children’s personality can help us better serve their educational needs. We discussed how quiet observation and making notes can gives us clues about our children’s unique personalities and guide our choices of curriculum, schedule and method of home schooling.
Then finally, we had a question and answer session. We ended with some book recommendations.
